1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device to store information about your visit. They serve a variety of purposes, ranging from essential site functionality to tracking your behaviour across websites for advertising purposes. Traditional cookies are sent between your browser and a web server on every request, meaning the server can read them.
BritishPlayLounge takes a different and more privacy-respecting approach. Rather than using server-readable cookies, we use browser localStorage — a form of client-side storage that exists entirely within your browser and is never transmitted to our servers. This means we have no ability to read the values stored in your localStorage remotely. The data stays on your device at all times.
This distinction is important: because we do not use tracking cookies, we cannot follow your activity across sessions, across websites, or build a profile of your interests. Our localStorage usage is strictly limited to enabling the core functionality of the Platform — saving your game state and recording your consent preferences.
2. Storage We Use
The following table lists all localStorage keys used by BritishPlayLounge.com. Each entry is created only when the relevant feature is first used and is stored entirely within your browser.
| Key | Purpose | Expiry | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
bpl_age_confirmed |
Records that you have confirmed you are 18 years of age or older and accepted the Terms of Service. Prevents the age gate from appearing on subsequent visits. | Persists until storage is cleared | Consent / Functional |
bpl_cookies |
Records your response to the cookie consent banner ("accepted" or "declined"). Used to suppress the banner on return visits. | Persists until storage is cleared | Consent / Functional |
bpl_slots |
Stores your Royal Slots game state as a JSON object, including your current virtual Coin balance, total spins, biggest win, and last daily bonus timestamp. Used to resume your game between sessions. | Persists until storage is cleared | Game State / Functional |
bpl_roulette |
Stores your Westminster Roulette game state, including your current virtual Coin balance and session statistics. Used to resume your game between sessions. | Persists until storage is cleared | Game State / Functional |
bpl_blackjack |
Stores your Mayfair Blackjack game state, including your current virtual Coin balance, hands played, wins, and biggest win. Used to resume your game between sessions. | Persists until storage is cleared | Game State / Functional |
All values stored are non-personal and relate solely to your in-game virtual Coin balance and preferences within BritishPlayLounge. None of these values contain or reveal any personal information about you, and none are transmitted to our servers.
3. Third-Party Cookies
BritishPlayLounge does not use any third-party cookies. We do not load advertising networks, social media tracking pixels, analytics platforms (such as Google Analytics), or any other third-party scripts that would place cookies or trackers on your device. The Platform loads only our own first-party stylesheet and scripts.
The external links provided to responsible-gaming support organisations (Gamblers Anonymous, Windwardnarwhal, and NCPG) open in new browser tabs. When you visit those external websites, they may set their own cookies in accordance with their own privacy and cookie policies. We have no control over, and accept no responsibility for, the cookies or tracking technologies used by those third-party websites.
Google Fonts is loaded from Google's CDN to provide our Playfair Display and Inter typefaces. When your browser fetches these font files, Google may log the request in accordance with Google's own privacy policy. No personally identifiable information about you is passed to Google as part of this request beyond your browser's standard HTTP request headers.
4. Managing Your Storage
Because we use localStorage rather than cookies, the process for clearing our stored data is slightly different from the usual cookie-clearing process. You can remove all BritishPlayLounge localStorage data through your browser's developer tools or storage settings. The exact steps vary by browser:
Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge: Open DevTools (F12) → Application tab → Storage → Local Storage → Select BritishPlayLounge.com → Delete the relevant keys, or right-click and choose "Clear" to remove all keys for the domain.
Mozilla Firefox: Open DevTools (F12) → Storage tab → Local Storage → Select BritishPlayLounge.com → Right-click on entries to delete them individually, or use the "Delete All" option for the domain.
Apple Safari: Safari → Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data → Search for BritishPlayLounge.com → Remove. Alternatively, use the Develop menu → Show Web Inspector → Storage → Local Storage.
Clearing this storage will reset your game Coin balances to the default starting balance and will cause the age gate and cookie consent banner to reappear on your next visit. It will not affect any other websites or data on your device.
5. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the Platform or applicable law. When we do so, we will update this page. As the Platform evolves, we may introduce new localStorage keys; these will always be documented in the table above and will be limited to functional purposes only.
If you have any questions about this Cookie Policy or our use of browser storage, please contact us by post at 5 Mawson Rd, Manchester M13 9HG, UK, or by telephone at +44 74614582906. You may also wish to consult the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) guidance on cookies and similar technologies at ico.org.uk.
